Pep Guardiola recommends Erik ten Hag for Manchester United job

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has offered his thoughts on Manchester United’s managerial target Erik ten Hag, claiming that the Ajax boss would be a great fit at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is said to be the top contender for the permanent managerial role at Old Trafford after being interviewed by the Red Devils hierarchy.

Now, Guardiola, who previously worked with Ten Hag during his time at Bayern Munich, has urged his cross-town rivals to hire the Dutchman.

However, the Spanish gaffer doubts whether Ten Hag would be successful at Old Trafford, as he highlighted United’s poor managerial record after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.

Guardiola said (h/t Goal): “If I was 100% sure I would call Manchester United and tell those guys you have to take him. But I don’t know and nobody knows.

“He is a good manager, there’s no doubt about it. But so were all the previous managers since Sir Alex Ferguson left.

“You cannot say David Moyes is not a good football manager and the others like Jose Mourinho or right now. All the managers that have been at United are excellent.”

Guardiola’s high praise doesn’t come as a surprise as Ten Hag served as Bayern’s reserves coach when the Spaniard was in charge of the first team.

Furthermore, like Guardiola, Ten Hag is also influenced by the philosophy of the Dutch legend Johan Cryuff.

The Dutch gaffer has made a significant impact at Ajax, winning two Eredivisie titles and KNVB Cups while playing an attractive brand of football.

Man Utd believe the 52-year-old would be the ideal person to oversee the rebuilding, instil a clear playing style and bring more youth to the fore.

Ten Hag has recently responded to the speculations regarding a takeover at Trafford, stating he would never rule out anything though he feels happy at Ajax for the time being.

The Red Devils are also planning to interview two other managerial candidates, Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino.
