Paul O’Grady Is “Constantly Conversing” With His 35 Dogs

The 67-year-old TV star – who famously fronted ‘The Paul O’Grady Show’ alongside late beloved pooch Buster back in the 2000s – has rescued numerous animals over the years and joked that others often wonder who he is talking to.

He said: “I’ve got six pigs, three goats, a load of chickens, eight barn owls, five dogs, three sheep and six alpacas.I’m always chatting to them all. I’m sure they understand, especially the alpacas.

“I say ‘How are you girls?’. They give me a look and I’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s like that, is it?’. When other people are around they wonder who I’m talking to!”

The ‘For the Love of Dogs’ star went on to explain that he is a “sucker” for animals and is willing to “spend a fortune” on medicines for them all but has no plans to stop.

He told The Daily Star: “I can’t help it. I’m a sucker. I see a little dog with epilepsy and I go, ‘I’ll have her’. I spend a fortune on tablets for them all. I just like animals. So am I going to stop? Am I hell!”

Meanwhile, the former drag queen – who first became known as Lily Savage before becoming a TV star in his own right – recently quit his radio show after almost 14 years and admitted it was the “right time” to go.

He said: “I’ve loved doing my Sunday afternoon show for the last 14 years and I’m going to miss my listeners as well as the fun I’ve had with my producer Malcolm Prince, but I feel that now is the right time to go..”
